RECIPROCAL DOME
Conducted for the community of Udaipur, this workshop introduced participants to the design and construction of a self-supporting reciprocal dome on a terrace setting.
The structure employed a reciprocal framing system, where each bamboo member supports and is supported by the next, forming a stable, load-distributing loop without a central oe edge support. Participants explored geometric principles, tiling logic, and assembly sequencing essential to the system.
The workshop focused on bamboo as a construction material, addressing joinery, member sizing, and structural behaviour. Emphasis was placed on enabling participants to replicate such lightweight structures in domestic settings such as terraces and backyards.
Delivered as a hands-on design-build exercise, the workshop combined geometric understanding with full-scale, on-site construction.
