Hosted by RAY Design Studio, this hands-on workshop introduced participants from diverse backgrounds to the design and construction of bamboo grid shell structures.

The workshop focused on developing a doubly curved bamboo grid shell, clad with bamboo mats as a lightweight enclosure system. Participants explored the structural potential and limitations of bamboo, including its behaviour under bending, joinery techniques, and load distribution.

Key learning components included foundation detailing, parametrically informed form generation for curved geometries, and the translation of design into on-site construction. The process emphasized material logic, setting-out techniques, and real-time assembly.
