The participants of the workshop were then briefed on the principles of the shell with respect to forces and form finding. They were encouraged to delve into a small-scale model before the actual hands-on activities on site.

The site preparation included marking, and excavations for the foundation. Once the foundation had been secured, teams of participants - now with a complete understanding of the primary, secondary and tertiary members of the grid - start erecting the Grid Shell structure onto the site.
